Cosmetology (5743)

  1. What is the process for entering the Cosmetology program?
    You must:
    1. Complete the Florida Coast Career Tech application along with the $15 one-time application fee.
    2. Visit the enrollment services office on the campus of your choice for information about financial aid.
    3. Contact the assessment and certification center on campus and take the required Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Your TABE scores will show whether you need to take courses in basic skills such as mathematics, language and reading. Your minimum score for each skill should be at least 9.0.
    4. Complete a cosmetology program application. Once you have been notified with acceptance into the program, you can then register for your course(s).
       
  2. What’s next if I do not meet the minimum TABE requirement?
    You must register and attend the Vocational Preparatory Instruction (VPI) courses for remediation. Students will not be allowed to exit the program until the minimum scores have been met.
     
  3. How much does the program cost?
    The approximate cost for Florida residents is $3,500.
     
  4. What does the cost include?
    The cost for the cosmetology program includes the following:
    1. Tuition for three courses
    2. Kit fee
    3. Uniform and name tag
    4. Textbooks
       
  5. How long will it take me to complete the program?
    The cosmetology program requires 1,200 contact hours and can be completed in 12 months (three semesters, 16 weeks each). Students have the option of attending the day or evening program.
     
  6. How often is the program offered?
    The cosmetology program is offered Fall Term (August through December), Spring Term (January through May) and Summer Term (May through August).
     
  7. What are the hours for day and evening classes?
    • Fall and spring term day classes meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    • Summer term day classes meet Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m.
       
  8. What are the hours for evening classes?
    • Fall and spring term evening classes meet Monday-Thursday from 5:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
    • Summer term evening classes meet Monday-Thursday from 5:30 p.m.-10:20 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
       
  9. How many courses are in the program?
    There are three courses in the Cosmetology program (each course is 400 contact hours):

  10. Is there a graduation ceremony?
    Yes. Graduation is held twice a year, in February and August. The cost for a cap and gown is approximately $22.
     
  11. Is financial aid available for this program?
    Yes. Students should visit the nearest campus enrollment services office for information on financial aid.
     
  12. What happens if I start and do not complete the program in one year?
    The TABE scores and grades earned are retained for two years from the date that you begin the program.  If you do not complete the program by the end of the two year term, you must start over and reenter the program, completing the TABE tests and a program application.
     
  13. How can I schedule an appointment with a cosmetology student?
    Appointments can be scheduled by calling (904) 766-5566. All services are completed by the students under the supervision of an instructor who is also a licensed cosmetologist.
